I go to this bakery any time I need a cake or I feel like a treat. Mango mousse cake is amazing and so is their tres leches and tiramisu. They do breakfast, and have gelato.

Not French but delicious and well designed cakes. Gelato section available. Prices are reasonable.

My dad, stepmom, stepsis and I stopped here for dessert after dinner the other night. We were all mezmerized by the many pastries and gelatos they had on display. We all got something different. My dad got a piece of Italian rum cake. My stepmom got an entire key lime pie (which we are still reaping the benefits of). My stepsis got French chocolate brandy gelato (yummmm...). I got a hazelnut ring, which was a hazelnut flavored shortbread cookie ring covered in hazelnuts and chocolate. It was like a twix bar, but WAY better. They do good things at Flowers.

This bakery is a local gem! The mango mouse cake was not only beautiful but super delicious and the service can't be beat! This is definitely going to be my go to bakery for all our special occasions from now on!

I call it Western sweets vs Eastern sweets and this place is def an Eastern sweets kinda place. Mango mousse cake was light, airy, and the mousse was still frozen when our party of 20 dug in several hours later. It's not a heavy-sweet cake and it's different than the norm chocolate and vanilla, so it's def worth if it you're wanting something different.

The mango mousse cake here tastes phenomenal, and the pineapple decoration on top is pretty awesome! There's a pretty decent sized selection of cakes, but the nice thing is that it seems that the selection is pretty specialized- there aren't any plain cakes here. The owner is also super friendly and helpful. I just wish they were a bit cheaper. I get that premium cakes demand a premium pricing, but the price point that they set is pretty expensive, at least to me. If you've got the money to spend on it, though, it's well worth it!

The mango mousse cake is a must -try! It's the best seller for a reason! We have been loyal customers for a while, the entire family loves it. I wanted to commend Flowers Bakery on its professionalism. My husband and I ordered our wedding cake from Flowers. We provided the decorative ribbons and the custom penguin cake topper (hand made by my brother and was personally flown in from Asia) before the wedding. Be mindful that part of the cake topper groom penguin's tie broke off on the flight over and we were planning on just letting it be, BUT to our surprise, Flowers Bakery FIXED it for us and it was PERFECT! FIVE STARS just for that! Thank you!!

We were having dinner company and needed to pick up something for dessert so we decided to try Flowers Bakery. We got there on Saturday afternoon and there was still a large selection of cakes, pies, some cookies, and other sweets. There were a few people in the shop, including a couple browsing through an album of cake photos (planning a wedding maybe?). We decided to try a few slices of different desserts and selected white chocolate, Grand Marnier, chocolate mocha cakes, and key lime pie. They were all fresh and very good, though I can't say I noticed much difference between the Grand Marnier and the chocolate cakes. I thought the best of the 4, maybe because I don't like things too sweet, was the key lime pie, nicely tart and exceptionally good. They don't have any breads or rolls, and though they have breakfast sandwiches "as of now" no other meal options. The staff was pleasant and said that everything is baked in house. We don't need desserts for everyday meals but will go back when we need something for dinner guests.

This bakery is clean, friendly and very warm. Everything looks amazing and so fresh. We had tres leches, an eclair, vanilla cupcakes and wish we had room for more. This is definitely a place you want to eat and will be our to go bakery from now on!

High quality wares but hard to get to with traffic and construction. I hope I just had bad timing!

I got a lovely triple chocolate mousse cake to rave reviews from all. Not too sweet. Not too heavy or too light.

  • Dominic L.

The white chocolate/dark chocolate mousse was delicious! Definitely one of the best pieces of cake I have had, and I'm not really a sweets person. The strawberry/chocolate was good, the mango was okay, and so was the peach. The head baker was extremely nice and knowledgeable. Definitely a place to come visit!

Milk and white chocolate mousse cake was amazing! I picked one up for my friend for her birthday and everyone at the party loved it. Will def come here again to pick up a cake and to try rehire other options!

I have been looking for an amazing tres leches for months. i have tried a variety of bakeries. I was so desperate for a good slice of cake that (based on the other yelp reviews) I drove 23 minutes to Flowers Bakery! Twenty-three minutes! Every minute was worth the commute! This is the best tres leches I've had since I've moved to the DMV! I also like that the bakery is clean and has tables where you can sit and enjoy your pastries. Also, the price is amazingly reasonable!

Flowers bakery is my family's "go-to" bakery. The location is behind a gas station so it's a little deceiving when you pull up but the inside is very clean and tidy. We often get the mango mouse cake which is super light and fluffy. The staff is very nice.

Three words: Key Lime Pie. Even if you don't usually like it, it's SHAMAZING here. Also a fan of other pies and tarts here.

Definitely hard to find, but well worth the effort -- best cakes EVER. We've had the various versions of the mousse cake -- all are fantastic.

I've had a lot of cake in my lifetime, but seriously, our wedding cake was the BEST. I was looking for a bakery near us in Silver Spring, but many of them were either overpriced, or they were too busy to do a tasting for us. I found Flowers Bakery Cafe on Yelp, and I called just a few days before, and I asked for a tasting, and Eduardo (the owner) prepared several different types of cake for us to try. My then fiance (now husband) doesn't like lemon flavored desserts, but after tasting the lemon cake there, he suggested one of our tiers be lemon! I asked for a custom dulce de leche (caramel) / strawberry cake, and it was WONDERFUL. We also did a dessert assortment of different pastries and our guests LOVED them. Not only was it great, but the price quoted was completely affordable. If you want to get the contract in writing, it's best to go in person and get a copy because this shop doesn't really email that much. I also dropped off a specific handmade cherry blossom decoration and they did a wonderful job incorporating it onto the cake. I highly recommend them!!!

2 legit 2 quit! Place should be illegal because these cakes is crack! Had the mango mousse based off recommendations of fellow Yelpers and they were right. This cake is amazingly light and tastes like real mango without being overly sweet! An 8" cake cost about $35. Will order form here again!

This place had some business around 4 PM on Sunday, which suggests a pretty good following. I had an eclair and enjoyed it very much. There were several items that looked appetizing, so I'll be back to try more. I usually ride to places to get a cup of coffee, some kind of treat or bagel, read for a bit, then continue my motorcycle ride. The coffee here was fine, but it's not really the kind of place you hang out and read.

I don't go to bakeries often, so I don't have much basis to compare this too... but everything looks good! I ordered a couple slices of everything to bring to a housewarming. The order included carrot cake, some fruit tart, red velvet, chocolate eclair, I think strawberry shortcake, and... something else I can't tell from the picture right now. The lady there (I'm assuming the owner) also threw in a mango chocolate slice for being a first time customer and ordering a lot. There's no question that I'll be back.

Every time I go to Flowers Bakery, I'm never disappointed! The cakes are delicious and always moist. They sell by the slice, by small 6 inch round, and a bigger 8 inch (I believe). The Tres Leches cake is a favorite of my family and I get it often, but it's also one of their best sellers. Some of the other pastries are always changing, which gives them more variety, and I like that because it let's me try other delicious options! Their chocolate cakes are always great as well. If you love chocolate, try their chocolate cakes! So good! Also, if ypu need writing on a cake, they put in on a piece of circular fondant without hesitation. Their coffees and lattes are great too! Their staff is friendly and caring. My little daughter was crying one day, and the gentleman behind the counter gave her a cookie at no charge! Wonderful place! I don't mind driving a bit out of my way for this place. 5 stars!

Really great bakery, everything I have had there are tasty, fresh, and reasonably priced. It looks like you can also order larger cakes for special occasions as well.

Carrot cake was ordered for a bday celebration...it was ok, if you like a dessert that isn't really sweet. I am a sugar head, so even though I was disappointed, I'm sure someone else would LOVE it, you can tell a lot of the ingredients are natural and not all processed and grainy. One thing I was very disappointed with was a red velvet cup cake I bought for my aunt, who loves trying everyone's cup cakes...why I don't know. Anyway...It was 12pm on a Sunday...so they hadn't been open that long so I assumed everything was fresh. NOT! that cupcake was so -excuse my french- damn hard...you could tap your finger against it and think someone was knocking on the door. Clearly these cupcakes were old and they wanted to get rid of them. It wasn't worth going back to get a couple a bucks for...but hope next time they have something a little softer :) Needless to say...I'd still go back

We got Flowers Bakery to bake our wedding cake. It tasted amazing, however the wood post in the cakes to hold up tiers had mold on them and created mold on the cake. The cake clearly wasn't baked fresh if mold grew on the post. Had high hopes after our tasting, so needless to say we were very disappointed.

I get my birthday cake every year here. Chocolate mousse cake is so delicious!

We ordered our wedding cake from here. Initially I was set on getting a white chocolate cake (surprise, surprise!); however, after meeting with Sylvia, she explained that the mousse cake are too soft for the layered wedding cake. After trying a few samples (all were delicious) we choose the Strawberry & Peach Custard. The cake turned out more than I could have asked for. The delivery to our reception was prompt and the cake was elegant, affordable and best of all our guests loved it!

I've had just about every cake at this bakery and have never been disappointed. My favorite is their marble chocolate mousse (not sure if that's the name of it but it's white chocolate and chocolate mixed). Second favorite that you have to order because you will not find it in their display is their red velvet cake. Delicious! The frosting is smooth and not too sweet. You can also get yummy breakfast here. Not sure what they put on their eggs, but their egg with bacon on wheat sandwich is tasty!

Greatly exceeded expectations! Exceptional product and service! I was trying to order flowers to be delivered on my aunt's birthday so I searched "flowers 20906" (her zip) and thus discovered Flowers Bakery!!! I ordered their well-reviewed fresh fruit cake, they agreed to deliver for $10 and my aunt was beyond thrilled with the surprise. She shared the cake with her church choir and declared it a smashing success!

I love tiny hole in the wall places. They don't rely upon snazzy signage or amazing decor to get business. They rely upon amazing food that will make you yearn for more. Flowers Bakery and Cafe is one of those places. It's a tiny hole in the wall that is behind the Sunoco gas station in the Layhill Shopping Center. My brother (the world's biggest foodie), discovered it one day - and my family of non-dessert eaters - are now sworn loyal customers that won't get their pastries anywhere else (my mother-in-law is a baker, and my mom wouldn't let her make the cake for the rehearsal dinner - it HAD to come from Flowers. Yes - THAT's how good it is). My family's favorite is the Mango Mousse. Upon first delicious bite, the fluffy mousse fills your mouth with dreams of lush mango-filled tropical getaways. Every bite will make you wish for more - and it carefully walks the line of sweetness, so that you will remain tantalized and not sickened. The cake base, although often overlooked in the ripe full flavor of the mango, is what makes this cake so successful. It's lightness of flavor is the perfect counterbalance to the mousse and gives it the perfect pedestal to shine. My personal favorite is the tiramisu. While I admit to having a fond weakness for all things tiramisu, their tiramisu is the last word in tiramisus. The base is rich with rum, however, it does not get weighted down and soaked to a point of sogginess. The filling is light and fluffy without any hint of greasy slickness. The dark cocoa powder adds just the right note of bitter richness that offsets the sweetness of the cake - --- well, it's quite evident I can wax poetic for days on end about their cakes. But in a nutshell, they are extremely good. The decor in this bakery is sparse, parking can be messy, and the staff is polite but very wooden. Ignore these small annoyances, because this bakery is really worth it. It's one of those secrets that everyone keeps, because we're all afraid that if they get too popular, they may run out when we need a fix!

Flowers Bakery Cafe smelled of deliciousness when I stepped foot in the door. My mouth seriously started to water! They had a fair amount of cakes ready to go and a bunch of mini assorted pastries/cake slices/baked goods in their cases. I couldn't decide between the chocolate eclair and bread pudding (one of my favs!), so I asked the guy behind the container which one he recommended. Of course he didn't give me an answer and said both are tasty. Come on now, give me your opinion...you know I'm going to purchase at least one of them! I decided on the chocolate eclair since it seemed to be calling out my name more. Hmmm...maybe I should have got the bread pudding instead. I was over it in two bites...wasn't into the filling. Although I didn't quite enjoy my dessert, I'd go back to try another mini dessert or even purchase one of their cakes for a special occasion. BTW-located right behind Sunoco gas station off Layhill/Bel Pre.

This bakery does have it all. Good service and delicious cakes, and baked goods. The texture, creme, taste and not very sugary. The taste is balanced at perfection. I will always go back to them.

We discovered this place a few months ago. The cakes are very good as are the pastries. We've tried almost all the cakes at this point and the fresh fruit cake is probably the standout along with the chocolate mousse cake. Best time to go is early in the day when they have a lot available.

I ordered two cakes from Flowers Bakery - mango mousse & coconut buttercream. Both were yummy but my favorite by far was the mango mousse. It was fresh, moist and the mango flavor came through very clearly. It was delicious. I liked the coconut buttercream as well, also moist and fresh. I was not disappointed with either. The store is very small, in a hidden location at the back. You'd never know it was there. I'll definitely try their other cakes.

Excellent bakery! I've checked out enough to know this is a fabulous find. The tres leches (3 milks) cake is to die for! Also, the strawberry chocolate mousse is another one of my favorites. I had the strawberry mousse and the white chocolate marble cake at my housewarming and it was a big hit! I will order from them in the future.

I'm a big fan of this awesome hole in the wall, literally. I found out from my friend and I've been trying to come here and order from here when I get the chance. It's tucked away in a shopping center off of Layhill Rd behind the gas station. As I'm writing this, I don't even think you can see it from Layhill Road or Bel Pre Road. Anyway, it's a place you have to check out if you're in the area or even out of the area. You can call in orders ahead of time if you're requesting a special cake or a larger cake. When you walk in though, they have a refrigerated counter showcase full of good. I honestly have not had their pastries, but I've sampled many of their cakes. My personal favorites are the White Chocolate Mousse and the Mango Mousse. The texture on the White Chocolate is phenomenal. It's not dry at all and the mousse and the "meat" of the cake go perfect together. It's not too sweet and it's just that darn good. On the flip fruity side, the Mango Mousse is really good if you're into mangoes. The decor and glaze are amazing and just like the other cake, the taste is great. Prices are reasonable and not over-priced, at least in my opinion. They have slices you can buy too, so you don't have to get an entire cake. Many friends have gotten their wedding cakes from here and they do a great job. They do deliveries too. Again, check out this hole in the wall and trust me, you'll go back for more.

Discover (v) - to see, get knowledge of, learn of, find, or find out; gain sight or knowledge of (something previously unseen or unknown). Finding Flowers Bakery & Cafe has been a true discovery for me, in every sense of the word. I come to the Layhill Shopping Center for a lot of my needs - bank, gas, gym, 7-11, Subway - because it's a stone's throw away from my house, and I thought I knew the place inside and out. But when I was pulled up next to the Sunoco garage to check my tire pressure, I looked up to get the hair out of my face, and what did I see beyond my bangs - a bakery that I'd never seen before! I swear I saw a halo around the building and a choir singing in the background. It was a beautiful sight! I was in a rush that day, but I finally had time to stop by at Flowers on Saturday morning. It was a humble space - just three tables, a display refrigerator, and a counter with more display cases of baked goods. I wondered to myself, "How many people know about this place?" It's hidden behind the gas station, so you can only see it if you're looking for it. But even at 9am on a Saturday, there was a steady stream of people coming in for a cup of coffee, a croissant or a cake pick-up. Maybe I'm not the first to discover this place :) The cakes, pastries and other baked goods looked expertly made and delicious. Single cake slices are $3.50, a whole cake ranges from $17 - 40, I think. There were at least 5 cakes in the refrigerator that were ready for pick-up. The counter was stocked with all kinds of birthday candles, tea bags, etc. So if you're ashamed of telling your friends that you got your cake from Giant, discover Flowers with me! And if you're in the neighborhood and need a quick breakfast, give their breakfast sandwiches a try, or pick up a pastry to go! I'll be back here for sure.

so i went to this place after reading the reviews and checked it out while we were deciding on a place to order a cake for my daughter's birthday and after much brooding over wether or not to go to a mega place (i.e. costco) and get a cheaper cake we decided that we would go to the small guy, pay more, and help stimulate the economy and boy did i get screwed...... i ordered a cake with a certain little cartoon animal that says hello to be on the top and all was fine and well when i placed the order, but somewhere on friday afternoon, while we were both at work, the baker decided to leave a message on our home phone saying he didn't have any hello images to put on the cake (of course the party is the next day).... i get home at 6:20, i listen to the message, call the baker, asks if he could make an image out of icing, he says fine but he needs a picture (????) i say ok i can get him one, i haul ass to get a picture to the bakery before it closes and think a catastrophe is averted, then i pick it up the next day...... and what do i get - some silver rat like thing?!?!? i had three hours before the party was about to start (screwed) we threw some sprinkles all over the cake so it wouldn't scare any of the children and made do.... the taste of the cake was like any cake you could buy at a supermarket. (oh yeah, and they forgot to write happy birthday on the cake as well) that hackneyed saying about first impressions rings true and this will be my last.
